There is a great beach and picnicking location just north of Florence which is nearby Heceta Head Lighthouse which is also the most photographed lighthouse in the United States. There are daily tours taking tourist and locals to visit and talk about the history of the light house. It's surely a sight not to be missed when you are in town.

There is never a dull moment for people in Florence. If you've seen the lighthouse and the caves venture off onto the 40 miles of sand dunes, some of those reaching over 300 feet high. Rent an ATV or dune buggy to explore them or if you don't like the speed from the ATV's you can always go horse back riding on them and onto the beach. While you are on the beach if you stare off into the ocean long enough you'll see whales spraying their mist into the air. If you're a boating type of person take a day to go deep sea fishing. But for the adventurous types there an endless supply of hiking, bird watching or even crabbing. The possibilities are endless as you can see; these activities are just a few that the beautiful area of Florence offers.
